Greetings for 2008, I would like to take this time to introduce you to Rural Roots Gardens and welcome former and future customers. My name is Kelly Jones and with the loving support of my husband Dan and the encouragement of family and friends this little business came to be. It began with the sale of perennials I grew and the divisions of others approximately six years ago. The business was then registered in 2005. Growing up Market Gardening and having a passion for flowers, this seemed to be the path I was destined to follow. Best of all I was able to be home for my son Dylan. I met Anne & Don Martin along this path, thus my addiction for iris and daylilies blossomed. They became wonderful mentors, and more importantly dear friends. Spring 2006 they asked what direction I wanted my little business to go. (I had no idea of their intentions as my dream was to do what they were doing.) Fall 2006 they asked me if I would like to take over their business when they retired. I was honoured. It was to be a three year process to ease me into the business and move the inventory gradually... November, I received a call from Don telling ne they were moving and the house and property were going up for sale. I was now taking over in August 2007 because they were moving to Shelborne, Nova Scotia. So much for the three year plan! Winter was spent learning as much of their business as I could while growing my seedlings and preparing for my opening in May. The few months of winter went past in a blur as I worked with Anne and Don during the "spare time". Mother Nature was not in our favour, giving us the driest springs and summer months for moving inventory. We did it though with many ups and downs. Don, Anne, Dan, Judy, Leigh-Ann, Tracy, Donna and myself spent many trips digging and replanting. Without family and friends, this would not have been possible, while also running a business. Rural Roots Gardens has been fast forwarded, this "once in a lifetime" opportunity has been a blessing thanks to Don and Anne believing in me. This is why I have decided to dedicate the first catalogue to them... Thank you for all your love and support. |
